As prom season nears, a local organization is preparing to help girls who can't afford a dress.

Claressa Ham is the founder of Archie's Promise.  The organization collects dresses to provide to girls going to prom.

This year marks the 5th Annual Prom Dress Drive Giveaway.

Archie's Promise has given away 600 prom dresses since 2009, and Ham hopes this year will be the most successful yet.

High school girls receiving free or reduced lunch or those with a referral from a teacher, counselor or social worker qualify for a free dress.  Everyone else can purchase one for $25.

Ham named Archie's Promise after her late grandfather.

She explained, “I always promised him that I would keep his memory alive and keep doing great work within the community and making sure people are helped.”

The organization has acquired about 600 dresses for this year's sale, but they are still in need of plus sizes.

Dresses can be donated to Holiday Cleaners at 911 Memorial Boulevard or Heritage Cleaners at 960 Northwest Broad Street in Murfreesboro.

The dress drive and sale will be held Saturday, March 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Siegel High School located at 3300 Siegel Road in Murfreesboro.
