A Mt. Juliet family is continuing to work to raise money to build a water park in honor of their late daughter.
Krista Bright began the Avalyn Shaye Foundation shortly after her two-and-a-half year old daughter, Ava, passed away in 2010.
“We lost Ava in March 2010 to a routine tonsillectomy,” Krista said.
Since her daughter's untimely death, Krista contacted Water Play Solutions, a water park company. The company has since designed Ava's Splash Pad which is estimated to cost around $180,000.
“The one that we have conceptually drawn actually has two areas,” she said. “It has one for little toddlers that the sprayers do not spray in your face and then the other side of it is more like a high energy area where the water dumps on their head.”
Krista told Nashville's News 2 she has raised $80,000 for the cause through two 5Ks.
She also added the splash pad is a finalist for a $50,000 grant through Water Play Solutions.
“I wrote the grant a year ago and it was basically just, tell us your story,” she explained. “We are the two finalists and they are in Canada and we are in the U.S. so we need the whole U.S. to vote for us.”
Online voting for Ava's Splash Pad continues through Thursday, January 31.
