Rescue squads from Warren and White counties and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency worked together Sunday to save two men whose boat was dangling over the edge of a dam.
Fishermen Greg and Gary Cherry told Nashville's News 2 their boat had motor trouble.
“My brother started it up and put it gear and the motor died and he said, ‘We are going over,'” Gary said.
Their boat dangled over the dam at Pepper Branch Park in McMinnville for nearly three hours before they were rescued.
“It was scary, it really was. We thank God that we are still here.” Gary said, adding,” We locked our hands together and said we love you.”
A rope thrown down from a railroad trestle helped keep it from going over the edge.
After safely being rescued, the brothers watched their 1979 Bass Tracker boat go over the dam.
“Even the game warden said you boys are lucky,” Gary said.
On Monday morning the Cherry brother pulled their boat, which was still afloat, from the water.
Both said they plan to be back on the water fishing next weekend.
