A home in Murfreesboro was destroyed in a fire Saturday night.

The fire started just before 10 p.m. at the home on Sanford Drive.

Firefighters remained on the scene Sunday morning, spraying water on the 9,000 square foot home.

The Compton family built the home themselves in the 1970s.  They sold it after a divorce but purchased it again in 1986.

“With this house being such a strong sound rock and cement block and steel beams, we never imagined that it could turn out looking like this someday,” Valerie Compton told Nashville's News 2, adding, “We're going to rebuild, definitely, [and] build new memories for the grandchildren.”

There was no one home when the fire started and no one was injured.

Fire officials told family members the fire may have started in an outdoor seating area.

The official cause is under investigation.
