Portland police on Wednesday arrested a Springfield man for burglarizing two area pharmacies.

The first burglary occurred on the morning of January 5 at a doctor's office located at 102 West Knight Street.

Responding officers discovered the rear window had been broken out and someone had been inside the building.

The second burglary occurred early Wednesday at Village Drugs located at 100 West Knight Street.

A baseball bat was used to smash out the front window, police said.

Daryl Polk, 33, was identified as a suspect after police learned he was arrested last week for a similar burglary in Springfield.

It was also discovered that police in Hendersonville and Nashville were actively working cases similar to the Portland cases with a similar suspect vehicle description.

Polk was interviewed by Portland detectives and subsequently confessed to his involvement in the crimes.

He was charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of vandalism over $500 and booked into the Sumner County jail on a $145,000 bond.

Police said more charges in other jurisdictions anticipated.

A January 23 court date has been set.
