A Cheatham County father is behind bars, charged with abusing his newborn son.
Wesley Scott, 26, is charged with aggravated child abuse for injuries caused to his seven-week-old son.
According to the sheriff's office, the infant suffered multiple rib fractures, head injuries and bleeding on his brain.
He was taken to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital where he was last listed in fair condition.
According to Sgt. Travis Walker, Scott admitted to violently shaking his infant son.
“He said he was stressed. [He] tired trying to get the baby to sleep [and] to stop crying. He shook [the baby] and it worked so he figured it was okay to continue shaking it, like he did to make the baby quiet,” he said.
Walker continued, “This is probably the worst I have seen a child being broken up at seven weeks old. It's unreal.”
The child's 23-year-old mother has not been charged.
Nashville's News 2 Investigates spoke to the woman by phone, but she declined an on-camera interview, saying she was “in shock” and “unsure what to say.”
Scott, of Chapmansboro, was booked into the Cheatham County jail on a $500,000 bond.
He is scheduled to appear in court next week.
The Department of Children's Services is investigating.
