Belmont wins first ever Ohio Valley Conference game

The Belmont Bruins entered the Ohio Valley Conference just like they left the Atlantic Sun, winners.

The Bruins beat Jacksonville St. 73-62 Thursday night in Alabama to win their first ever game in the OVC.

Belmont put a premium on the defensive end of the floor holding the Gamecocks to only two points the first eight minutes of the game.

Despite trailing most of the night, Jacksonville took a 48-47 lead with just over 10 minutes to play, but the Bruins quickly seized control on back to back baskets from Reece Chamberlain and never looked back.

JJ Mann gave Belmont the first double-double of his career with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Blake Jenkins came within a rebound of double-double as well. He had 14 points and 9 rebounds.

The Bruins are 10-4, 1-0 in the OVC and visit Tennessee Tech Saturday night.
