The skyline in The Gulch will soon look a little different as developers are planning to build a 23 floor luxury apartment building on the corner of 12th Avenue and Laurel Street.
The Gulch has grown leaps and bounds over the last several years and the new apartment complex has businesses around the site thrilled about the new development.
“Since I have moved here in the last two and a half years it has completely changed,” said John Dyke, owner of the Turnip Truck Urban Fare grocery store. “The grocery store came in, more and more retail. When I came in there was only basically restaurants and now you are starting to see retail.”
He tells Nashville's News 2 he is very excited about a new high rise luxury apartment building planned for Gulch.
“You are seeing a community that people are walking in here to the store which is always appreciated,” Dyke said. “We need the growth in here to survive in the Gulch area which will just help us to be able to expand and do more things, more offerings for the community.”
The 23 floor luxury apartment building is scheduled to break ground in February and will feature large, high quality one and two bedroom apartments.
“That is going to be great for business,” said Rob Massie of Casablanca Coffee. “Like 300 units or something like that. I think that will really help out and bring more people down here.”
Massie has worked at Casablanca Coffee for almost three years and says the growth has been good for business.
“New construction is going on,” he said. “The Icon Building and the Terrazzo Buildings are almost completely full right now so business has really picked up and that is helping us out definitely.”
And John Dyke says his store is ready for the extra business.
“It is going to be wonderful because people can walk right over, and we can provide all the food that they need.”
The new luxury apartments should be completed by June of 2014 and will feature condo quality amenities like a 24/7 concierge service and a large gym for residents.
