Smyrna police have charged a 42-year-old man with killing his girlfriend on Wednesday morning.

Authorities said Kerry Tomlin called police just before 5 a.m. and reported that 40-year-old Maria Lambert was overdosing on drugs at a home located in the 1100 block of Bolton Drive.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered Lambert had severe bruising and multiple stab wounds.

She was transported to Stone Crest Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Tomlin remains jailed on an $800,000 bond.

He is expected to appear in court next Thursday.
