City employees in Hendersonville are reaching out to help the family of a co-worker who was seriously injured in an ATV accident in November.

Larry Conley, who works in Hendersonville's Parks and Recreation Department, broke his neck when an ATV crashed on top of him November 9.

He's now at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta for rehab and physical therapy.

Parks and Recreation director Dave LeMarbre and his assistant Pat Sodersten, have headed up an effort to help Conley and his family.

“We started collecting money [and] gas cards. We gave them $300 in gas cards last week,” LeMarbre said.

In addition to helping the Conley family financially, co-workers are working to make the family's home wheelchair assessable by removing the gravel driveway and installing doors that are wide enough for wheelchairs to pass through.

“We asked her what wall does she want taken out, she said I don't care what walls, what doors or what you have to do I just need for when he comes home to be fixed,” LeMabre said.

Wife Jessica Conley said she and her husband are overwhelmed by the love and support from city employees.

“My husband sits down every night and reads the text messages, the emails and the cards that come and there's nothing to do but cry at the kindness,” she told Nashville's News 2.

City employees are taking donations to help the Conley's with travel expenses to and from Atlanta.

Donations of supplies and skills are also needed for when work begins on their home in January.
