Clarksville police have cleared an officer of any wrongdoing after he shot and killed a dog last month.

The incident occurred on Saturday, November 17 while Officer Todd Bell was helping search for a 13-year-old runaway when the five-year-old pit bull was shot.

The dog's owner, Judy Allen, previously told Nashville's News 2 the canine was on a leash and tied up in her front yard when she was shot. She added that her dog was neither vicious or aggressive.

On Monday the Leaf Chronicle reported, Officer Todd Bell will not face any disciplinary charges for the shooting since he felt “he was in danger and took the action he thought he needed to take.”

“The incident was reviewed by the command staff and then by me,” Chief of Police Al Ansley told the newspaper “We also had one of the police department's investigators investigate the scene.”

Ansley added, “Of course we regret it. It was a very unfortunate event that took place.”

No additional information was released.
