More than 100 Fort Campbell soldier were reunited with their friends and family members on Thursday morning a little bit sooner than expected.

The Screaming Eagles returned to Fort Campbell after a seven month long deployment.

Among those soldiers returning home include Matthew Wheeler who was deployed when his son Zachary was just five weeks old.

“I just feel like complete now I'm so happy,” wife Whitney Wheeler said. “I've just been thinking about it the last few days and I've just been crying. I'm so happy he is back.”

Matthew added he is thrilled to be able to be home for his son's first Christmas.

“My last deployment I missed Christmas, so it's nice to be home for this one,” he said.

Lt. Mathew Miller was only reunited with his girlfriend, Caitlin Stein for a few short minutes before he proposed to her.

“This is the best day of my life, no doubt,” Stein, who will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May said, adding, “This is the most beautiful ring I've ever seen and I'm really happy right now.”

More soldiers are expected to return home in late January.
