Man dies in I-40 crash in Hermitage

A 34-year-old Nashville man was killed after crashing his car on Interstate 40 in Hermitage early Sunday morning.

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. at the ramp to I-40 West from Old Hickory Boulevard/Central Pike.

Metro police said their preliminary investigation indicates the victim, Shawn Granato, was driving his 1999 Nissan Altima when he entered a curve, travelled off the roadway and landed on the Interstate below.

Granato was not wearing his seat belt and died at the scene.

Police said there was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement at the scene.

Interstate 40 was closed between Old Hickory Boulevard and Stewart's Ferry Pike while police investigated.
