Just before the bowl selection committee announced Vanderbilt's inclusion in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl, Vanderbilt announced a brand new contract for their head coach, James Franklin.
Vice Chancellor David Williams said he was “proud to announce that Coach Franklin has signed a new contract and a continued commitment to the program.”
Williams said they started the talks for Franklin's new deal nearly two weeks ago.
The terms of Franklin's new deal have yet to be disclosed, but they will include training room and locker room improvements.
“This really is about our kids, our players,” Franklin said. “I made a promise to them that they could come to Vanderbilt and chase all their dreams.”
Franklin said he was proud of the progress the team made on and off the field. He said he has high hopes for a higher team GPA and a 100% graduation rate.
Vandy will play in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl on New Year's Eve. The team went 8-4 this year.
