A bizarre burglary at one of Maury County's most well known historical sites has historians brimming with anger Friday.

Deputies arrested a partially clothed man, identified as Landon Nickell, at Rippa Villa Plantation early Wednesday morning.

Upon their arrival, deputies discovered a broken window and blood smeared on the blinds. Two rocking chairs are also reportedly broken.

Nickell was seen coming out of the historic site, which sits adjacent to the Spring Hill Battle Field, wearing only long johns.

Authorities said he was also bleeding.

He was taken into custody and faces a number of charges including burglary, vandalism, public intoxication and possession of burglary tools.

Nashville's News 2 Investigates spoke to Maury County librarian Elizabeth Potts about the recent break-in.

“So many of these historic things are so fragile and they cannot be replaced,” she said.

Elizabeth Potts, an employee of the historic site added, “He violated us, all the people of Maury County, people of Tennessee and Spring Hill. It's just like breaking into our house because it is ours too.”

Nashville's News 2 Investigates attempted to contact Nickell, but our calls were not immediately returned.
