Funeral services were held Wednesday in Murfreesboro for a local volunteer fire department chief who died last weekend.

Steve Walker served as chief of the Fosterville-Midland Fire Department.  He died Saturday at the age of 48 following a short bout with liver cancer.

Walker was named chief of the department in 2008 and twice won the Firefighter of the Year Award.   He was also the owner of Walker's AA Automotive Towing and Repair.

His cancer was discovered just four months ago.

Walker leaves behind his wife and four children.

Memorials can be made to the building fund for the Fosterville-Midland Fire Department.
