GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A Rogersville woman who received the Social Security benefits of a dead relative since 1982 has been sentenced to 30 months in prison.

Judy Dinsmore pleaded guilty at the U.S. District Court in Greeneville in May to theft of Social Security benefits.

Dinsmore admitted that she arranged to have the monthly checks delivered to her home, forged the endorsement of her deceased relative and cashed the checks at a Greeneville business.

At her Monday sentencing, Dinsmore also was ordered to pay $167,486 in restitution and serve three years of supervised release.

In 2004, Dinsmore was sentenced to five months in federal prison for a similar scheme involving a different deceased relative. The total loss to the Social Security Administration is estimated to be $250,000.
