Soldier’s widow joins Army to honor husband’s memory

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) – An Army widow has decided to honor her husband's memory by joining the military.

Johnson City resident Ashley Edens joined the Army on Thursday to honor Spc. Jason Edens of Franklin, who died in April after suffering a gunshot wound to the head in Afghanistan.

The bubbly 23-year-old told WJHL-TV that she was “lost” right after her husband died, but in the months afterward she began to find a new focus.

She says joining the Army allows her to not only honor her husband's memory, but to give back because the Army was there for her after the death.

She says she'd really like to help families of fallen soldiers.
