Metro police recovered nearly 100 guns in Saturday's Gift Cards for Guns event in south Nashville.

At the event, Nashville residents were asked to exchange any type of firearm for $25 gift cards to Dollar General.

In total, Metro exchanged 76 pistols, 14 long guns and a sawed off shotgun.

Organizers said its goal with the program is to take unsafe and unwanted firearms out of Nashville's neighborhoods.

In total, 337 firearms have been collected in the Gift Cards for Guns program.

Now that the guns have been collected, the firearms will be ran through the system in order to see if any crimes have been committed with the weapons.

In addition to the 91 guns collected on Saturday, Metro police collected 39 pounds of outdated or unwanted prescription medication.
