Over the weekend, more than three dozen people spent time completing a widow's to do list, including a Nolensville couple in the process of adopting a three-year-old from Congo.

Joan Quick told Nashville's News 2 since her husband's death last year, there are plenty of things that need to be done.

“Cleaning up the shed here, my husband built this out of that big old barn back there, and he was going to put windows in and an air conditioner and have it for his room, but that didn't happen,” Quick said.

The project was never completed because Quick's husband passed away right before Thanksgiving last year.

With the help of Honnie and Doug Payne, and 38 other people, the volunteers were able to work on Quick's “honey do” projects.

The Payne's told Nashville's News 2 they are inspired by a verse in the Bible which instructs Christians to care for both widows and orphans.

The couple said they were touched by the conditions in which their three-year-old daughter Abigail is living in.

“Most of the time there's no running water, there's no locks or doors on the window, so it can be a little bit of a dangerous place,” the couple explained.

The Payne's are raising $38,000 thousand dollars for the adoption.

The 40 people working on Quick's home are being sponsored to raise that money.
