A man arrested for marijuana possession in Cookeville told police he was celebrating the recent legalization of the substance in two other states.
According to The Herald Citizen, Christopher Queen, 41, of was caught during a traffic stop around 1:30 a.m. November 8.
The arresting officer told Queen he stopped the car when he saw him drive through a stop sign and noticed he wasn't wearing his seatbelt.
Queen allegedly told the driver he didn't notice the stop sign and forgot to put on his seatbelt.
The officer said he then noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle and asked to search the car.
Upon a consented search, the officer found two small baggies that contained less than half an ounce of what he said appeared to be marijuana.
Queen confirmed it was pot and explained that he was celebrating the new marijuana laws that passed in Colorado and Washington.
He was cited for possession of marijuana.
