A former Cookeville police officer and his 16-year-old son were taken into police custody late last week on drug charges.

According to a report in the Herald Citizen, Gary Bean, is charged with possession of drugs for resale and tampering with evidence after he allegedly attempted to flush marijuana down the toilet as police executed a search warrant of his Cookeville home.

The newspaper reported Bean's 16-year-old son also faces charges, while his teenage daughter was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.

During an investigation, police said an undercover officer purchased illegal drugs from the 59-year-old man's home.

Police also discovered a half pound of marijuana inside a gun cabinet in Bean's bedroom, as well as drug paraphernalia, including a pipe and grinder in his daughter's room.

Four hundred dollars was also seized from the home.

Bean's bond was set at $10,000. He is scheduled to appear in court next week.

Bean formerly worked as a police officer for many years before he was terminated in 1998.
