He was a respected member of the Bedford County community, a local teacher and Shelbyville Boy Scout leader.

Now, Travis Spivey is charged with sexual battery by an authority figure.

Shelbyville police Sgt. Brian Crews said their investigation into Spivey, 43, began after a 17-year-old boy came forward, alleging inappropriate touching.

Spivey was arrested last Tuesday, November 7, and ultimately confessed to the allegations.

“He did express remorse and regret, and [he] legitimately regrets ruining the relationship with the young man,” Crews told Nashville's News 2 Investigates.

Investigators said the victim first came to know Spivey as a Boy Scout leader.

“Their relationship was that of a father-son type relationship,” Crew continued.

Spivey taught seventh and eighth grade science at Liberty Elementary School but police said the victim was not one of his students.

Bedford County School spokesperson Mike Bone said Spivey was hired by the district in 2012.  He was a good teacher with no complaints lodged by other students, parents or faculty members.

He was suspended without pay immediately after officials learned of his arrest.

Boy Scout officials say they terminated Spivey immediately upon learning of his arrest.

Police said no other victims have come forward and they have no reason to believe there are others.

Spivey was booked into the Bedford County jail and has since been released on a $25,000 bond.
