A 69-year-old man and grandfather of five chased down and caught a man wanted by authorities.
Don Rose, a veteran of the U.S. Army, told Nashville's News 2 Investigates he was traveling on Gallatin Pike on Thursday when he saw 27-year-old Antwan Kelley running from police.
Rose said he first attempted to cut Kelley off with his truck in an effort to stop the man who has a long criminal history, but was unsuccessful.
Rose, who is just five feet, three inches tall and 132 pounds decided to jump out of his truck and chase after the six foot convicted felon on foot.
“It was just the right thing to do at the right time,” he said.
After a brief chase, Rose is able to catch Kelley.
“I caught him by the jacket. The jacket came off him, then I caught him by the back of the pants. [His] pants came down and I pulled him down and I got him in a headlock and held him tight,” Rose recalled, adding, “He realized I had him in a headlock and he said to me, ‘You got me.'”
Rose said police thanked him for his quick actions that led to Kelley's arrest.
“They said thank you. I think it is a citizen's responsibility to do what they can do and with God's strength I was able to do that,” he said.
During the chase, Rose said he sustained a small scratch to his ankle.
Kelley was taken into police custody and is charged with evading arrest and theft.
Police said Kelley has a long criminal history for crimes including drug and gun charges.
