NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Vanderbilt coach James Franklin is eager to take his Commodores on the road again. Apparently, his host for the weekend is just as enthusiastic.
Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze called Franklin on Monday morning to extend an early welcome to the Commodores, who have won three straight and 4 of their last five. Franklin said he was surprised by the call and indicated Freeze complimented Vanderbilt on its recent surge.
The Commodores (5-4, 3-3 Southeastern Conference) are coming off their first SEC shutout since 1968 – a 40-0 rout at Kentucky. A win over Ole Miss would make them bowl eligible for a second straight year for the first time in school history. It also would mark just the 10th time they have won four league games in a season.
