Hopkinsville police pulled a man from his burning car after he crashed the vehicle Sunday morning.
According to the Kentucky New Era, 33-year-old Martez Nelson was traveling along North Drive when, for some reason, his vehicle left the roadway.
The vehicle crossed into a ditch and hit a sign. Nelson attempted to correct to the left when he crashed into the end of the bridge rail on the passenger side of his vehicle.
The impact caused the vehicle to catch fire.
Upon arrival, responders discovered the vehicle fully engulfed.
Nelson was pulled from his vehicle after responding officers broke a window and tamed flames using fire extinguishers.
Nelson was transported to an area hospital with what officers described as “severe injuries.”
He was later taken via helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
He was last listed in critical but stable condition.
No further details were immediately released.
