A two-year-old boy is safe after he was found wandering alone in the street in Clarksville.
Grettel Ash spotted the child, wearing only a diaper, in the middle of Stephanie Drive on Tuesday around Noon.
“I did have to swerve to miss the child because he was in the middle of the street and being so little I didn't see him until I was right there up on him,” said Ash.
Ash took the child to a nearby fire department and called police.
“He was cold. He wasn't really scared. He came to me even though I've never seen the baby before a day in my life,” said Ash.
The child's mother, 27-year-old Tabitha Tamayo, was cited for contributing to dependency and neglect.
Police told Nashville's News 2 Tamayo fell asleep and the child wandered out of the apartment by himself.
The Tennessee Department of Children's Services was contacted.
The child has since been placed back in his mother's custody.
