A grieving Rutherford County mother remains hopeful someone has information that could help police solve the 1999 disappearance of her 16-year-old daughter.

Suzanne Videon last saw her daughter, China, on October 19, 1999 at a beauty salon located in the Jackson Heights Plaza.

After visiting her mother at the salon, the Riverdale High School junior left to go see a friend, but never returned home.

Police located China's abandoned car on June 23, 2000 at an Antioch apartment complex located off of Harding Road.

China was legally declared dead in October 2007.

Despite the declaration, Suzanne said she has not given up hope that her daughter's disappearance will be solved and that she believes people have information about her daughter's case.

Rutherford County Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Dan Goodwin first began investigating China's disappearance in 2007.

“We believe China was abducted, killed and disposed of by someone who knew her well,” Goodwin said. “The case is more difficult because her remains have never been found.”

At the time of her disappearance, China worked at the Bi-Lo grocery store located on Rutherford Boulevard.

“We're hoping after 13 years that folks who were teenagers then and know about things in her life will come forward,” Sgt. Goodwin said. “They should be in their 30s now and may have children. They may reflect on that and come forward with any information that they have.”

Goodwin continued, “”If you heard something or were told things, we want to hear from you. If you heard from the person who did something with China, we want to hear about it.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact authorities at 615-904-3038.
