A Clarksville man faces charges after he allegedly slapped a four-year-old child in the face and pushed him to the ground.
According to a report in the Leaf Chronicle, Jose Vega told police the child was acting up and would not mind when the incident happened on August 10.
The 27-year-old reported to authorities that he tried to slap the boy in the back of the head, but he turned, causing him to strike the victim's face and bruise his eye.
Vega also allegedly pushed the child to the ground, causing him to bust his lip.
The Department of Child Services was notified of the incident after the boy arrived to daycare with a bruised eye and other markings on his face.
Police said the child's mother initially reported the boy received the injuries from a punching bag, however later admitted to lying.
Vega is charged with child abuse and neglect of a child age six or less.
He remains jailed on a $10,000 bond.
