Construction begins Monday on a historic stretch of downtown Nashville in efforts to rework and restructure the area.
The city is spending $1.4 million to revamp Fifth Avenue North from Church to Union streets, north of Broadway.
Monday, they will begin drilling holes in the sidewalks for the new lights poles that will line Fifth Avenue, or Avenue of the Arts. The city holds an art crawl along this strip of road once a month.
LED curtains will hang above the roadway and will be high enough to be seen from Broadway.
They are also adding sidewalks and several curb extensions to improve safety for pedestrians and motorists and allow space for outdoor dining.
The project is expected to be complete in spring of next year.
