A multi-vehicle crash created a traffic nightmare for drivers on Interstate 24 southeast of Nashville Tuesday morning.
The crash was reported in the eastbound lanes just before 6 a.m. at mile marker 63 near the Old Hickory Boulevard exit, not far from the Rutherford County line.
A driver told police he was hit by another vehicle and came to a stop.
A witness told Nashville's News 2 the stopped vehicle created a traffic cluster and the driver was struck several times by vehicles who attempted to swerve around him.
According to police, at least seven vehicles were involved.
Eastbound I-24 was briefly shutdown until officials were able to open the two outer lanes to traffic.
One westbound lane was shutdown for about 30 minutes when an emergency vehicle parked to assist drivers.
One person was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Others were treated and released at the scene for minor cuts and bruises.
Traffic was backed up for over a mile, close to the Bell Road exit.
The scene was cleared and interstate reopened by about 8:30 a.m.
