MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (AP) – A Morristown woman who got out of her car after being rear-ended has been struck and killed by a school bus.
Police told the Citizen Tribune 63-year-old Sandra Akers was driving two students to Meadowview Middle School when her car was hit. The school bus struck Akers and both cars moments later.
There were 18 students on the bus and driver Tina Holt. No injuries occurred on the bus. Police Maj. Michelle Jones said sunlight shining into Holt's eyes was a factor in the crash shortly before 8 a.m.
No charges were immediately filed. An accident reconstruction team will consider all factors involved in the crash.
School officials called the parents of the students aboard the bus, and two police chaplains were sent to the school.
