Franklin police are crediting a vigilant victim in the arrest of a DUI crash suspect Friday night.

According to police, officers were notified of a vehicle crash on Cool Springs Boulevard near Frazier Drive around 9 p.m.

The suspect, 34-year-old Benjamin Hunter, fled the scene prior to officers arrival.

Police reported the victim followed Hunter to a nearby parking lot and used his vehicle to prevent him from fleeing.

Officers located Hunter in Bed, Bath and Beyond's parking lot a short time later.

During their investigation, police determined he was under the influence of alcohol.

“Even as a victim, citizens can get involved by helping officers apprehend a suspect,” said Officer Eric Johnson. “Citizens like this one, empowering themselves to standup against crime, along with a responsive police department, ensure criminals end up where they belong – behind bars.”

Hunter was booked into the Williamson County jail and is charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an injury crash and failure to report an accident.

He has since been released on a $4,750 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Thursday afternoon.
