2 children recovering after hit by tree limb

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Two children, injured when a tree limb fell onto them in a Memphis park, are recovering.

The Commercial Appeal reported the medical condition of both children was upgraded from critical to good and both are expected to fully recover. Adults hit by the limb on Monday were not seriously hurt.

City arborist Richard Beckwith said the limb and the tree it fell from were generally healthy. Beckwith said a drought has stressed trees and recent rains have allowed them to draw in a lot of water. He said the branch likely split off from the Southern red oak because it was too heavy from the water it took in.

It fell from about 25 feet and also damaged a concrete bench at the base of the tree.
