Vanderbilt University has met its fundraising goal for the construction of a new multi-purpose facility and an addition to its recreation center.
The multi-million dollar project will be funded by a combination of philanthropy and university investments.
The university plans to celebrate the fundraising milestone during Thursday night's home opener against South Carolina.
Officials said the project will enhance the existing recreation center by serving the entire Vanderbilt community and will include expanding weight training, multi-purpose spaces and cardiovascular and fitness areas, as well as the addition of a four-lane bowling alley that will both support the university's varsity bowling team and provide a new recreational activity.
The new multi-purpose facility is expected to include a 120 yard long indoor practice field, as well as an indoor track.
Construction on the $30 million project is set to begin in September.
