The Tennessee Department of Transportation said there are plans to expand the two lane portion of Franklin Road and Moore's Lane in Williamson County to four lanes in the future.
TDOT officials told Nashville's News 2 no contracts are up for bid yet and potential construction dates have not been selected.
According to TDOT, an average of 17,223 cars use the curvy stretch of road daily according to its latest traffic figures from 2011.
Motorists and nearby business owners told Nashville's News 2 the worst time to travel the roadway is around 5 p.m. when traffic is often backed up as Williamson County commuters make the return trip from work in Nashville.
“I tell my customers to avoid the area at that time of day,” explained health food business owner Len Rossi, adding, “While the traffic gets backed up, it does move quickly.”
Rossi said even though there are no immediate plans to expand the roadway, he is still concerned about what impact the construction could have on his business in the future.
“I am worried though about whether or not we might have to move,” he said. “A lot of folks up and down this stretch are concerned.”
TDOT officials said the earliest start date for the project would be in a couple of years.
