Smithville man faces jail time for selling fake military documents

A Smithville man faces three years in prison for possessing and selling documents bearing counterfeit federal agent seals and pretending to be a federal employee.

Robert Neener was sentenced on Monday in federal court.

He pleaded guilty in March 2012 of the illegal operation which he ran from January 2007 through December 2008.

Authorities said the 65-year-old man advertised online that he could provide customers with authentic military replacement documents.

He is believed to have obtained more than $200,000 from customers who ordered thousands of documents which included honorable discharges and awards.

In addition to prison time, Neener has been ordered to pay more than $43,000 in restitution to more than 600 victims who purchased documents from him through his online site.
