Food giveaways to benefit 1,200 local families

Two food giveaways are scheduled to be held on Wednesday in an effort to help 1,200 families in need.

The first giveaway kicks off at 9 a.m. at the News Livingstone Baptist Church located on Hancock Street in east Nashville.

The second giveaway will be hosted by the Nashville Family Church beginning at Noon at the former Alexander car dealership located on Hillsboro Road in Franklin.

“There's just such a need right now. There's a lot of hungry people in Middle Tennessee, one in four children don't know where their next meal is coming from, so this isn't something that's going away,” said organizer Pastor Chris Whitney said. “We really need help, come out and if you've never done this before, it'll change your life.”

Each family will be given a 10 pound box of personal care items, in addition to a 25 pound box of food.

Organizers are still in need of volunteers to help recipients carry their boxes to their vehicles.

The need is tremendous. We really need help,” Whitney said. “Come out and if you've never done this before, it'll change your life, it'll rock your world. Show up to help someone else and be a part of making someone's day, there's nothing like it.”

Volunteers are asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to the giveaway.
