The 17-year-old son of the chief of the police in White Bluff, Dickson County, has died following a swimming pool accident on the Fourth of July.

Caleb Holman passed away at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

He suffered a neck injury last Wednesday while swimming at a friend's grandparents' house.

Holman's father, White Bluff Police Chief Mike Holman, was one of the first responders to the home on Joslin Branch Road.

He said he wasn't aware the accident involved his son until he arrived on the scene.

Many friends were in shock on Monday as news of the teen's death spread through the small, tight knit community.

“He was a really good guy,” Dustin Childers told Nashville's News 2, “[Caleb] always put a smile on everybody's face. Just an all around country boy, always liked to have fun.”

Holman was set to start his senior year at Creek Wood High School in the fall, but right now friends are just trying to cope by sharing memories.

“We'd go over there [to a friend's house] and have bonfires and cookouts and everything and we'd go over there and throw horseshoes and go fishing and just have fun,” said Holman.

Holman's friends know the community will support each other in this grieving process, “He's very well known and the community just loved him and I know everybody's going to pull together.”

Funeral arrangements are pending.
