Nineteen children were found alone in a Bowling Green, Kentucky home without air conditioning or food.

The Warren County Sheriff's Department made the discovery Monday night after receiving a tip from a neighbor.

The children had been home alone for almost a week.

“It really worried me, because I heard kids, but I didn't see them,” neighbor Annie Adams said.

According to investigators, the children range in age from eight months to 14.

Eight dogs and one cat were also found in the home.

Officers say the temperature was in excess of 90 degrees when they arrived.  Investigators also found the children to be living in filth with dog feces littering the floor.

One of the younger children had received a minor injury from a falling TV.

“We don't know what kind of parents would leave their children with no air conditioning when it is 100-plus degrees and not care enough to check on them,” Det. Sgt. Tim Robinson said.

The parents told a neighbor last Wednesday to keep an eye on the kids because they had to leave town for a night due to a family emergency.

The children were taken to a local hospital Monday night and then turned over to state custody.

Some of the children were siblings and others were cousins.

Jackie Farah, the biological mother of some of the children, has been taken into custody.

She faces 14 counts of criminal abuse in the first degree and five counts wanton endangerment in the first degree.

She remained jailed Tuesday without bond at the Warren County jail.

Other involved parties are still being sought for questioning. The investigation is ongoing.
