Actress Reese Witherspoon was in Nashville on Friday afternoon to appear in court with her parents for an emergency hearing, according to The Tennessean.
The hearing before Probate Judge Randy Kennedy comes just days after the Hollywood star's mother, Betty Witherspoon, filed a lawsuit against her husband of more than 40 years.
The court documents filed May 8 state husband John D. Witherspoon has taken a second wife, Tricianne Taylor, who may be taking advantage of his mental condition.
In the lawsuit, Betty Witherspoon accuses the couple of bigamy and wants the recent marriage annulled.
Betty Witherspoon said in the affidavit that her husband “has an alcohol problem” and she fears that “he has early onset of dementia.”
Betty and John Witherspoon separated in 1996, but remain married.
The paper reported Reese Witherspoon and her brother requested that Judge Kennedy place her father under a conservatorship.
The court records regarding the case have been sealed.
