Beyond the sea of billowing hats and seersucker suits, horses and trainers are preparing for the 71st annual Iroquois Steeplechase Saturday.

Gates open at 8 a.m. at Percy Warner Park. Tickets are $15 at the gate for adults. Children 12 and younger are free.

The first race begins at 1 p.m.

Drivers can expect some delays as traffic is diverted around the course at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Eastbound lanes of Old Hickory Boulevard at Vaughn Road will be closed from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.

Westbound lanes of Hillsboro Road will be closed at 4 p.m. while traffic is leaving the race.

As in years past, the race benefits the Monroe Carell Junior Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.
