Murfreesboro crash claims life of 91-year-old

A 91-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle collision midday Monday in Murfreesboro.

The wreck, the first fatality for Murfreesboro in 2012, was reported around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Sulphur Springs Road and Clays Mill Drive.

Authorities said the driver of an International truck failed to yield, entered the intersection and collided with a Dodge pickup truck driven by James Gannon.

Gannon was transported to nearby Middle Tennessee Medical Center and later to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where he died from his injuries.

Nannie Gannon, 88, a passenger in the truck, was taken to Middle Tennessee Medical Center with serious injuries.

The driver of the International truck, 29-year-old Mark Harrell, was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.  Charges were not immediately filed.
