A Nashville neurosurgeon was escorted off a Carnival Cruise Line ship Sunday after a post on Twitter led authorities to believe the doctor was planning a bioterrorist attack.
The tweet appeared to come from Dr. Jack Kruse and made it seem as though he was in possession of a vial of harmful bacteria.
Posted on Sunday morning, the tweet read, “Security confiscated dynamite. talk won't be as explosive as one at PaleoFx. still have vial of Legionnaires for epic biohack. #lccruise12.”
In addition, Carnival was contacted by a caller named “Lance” who informed them a doctor aboard the Carnival Magic was planning a viral bio-hack.
“It was like being in a movie, and it was surreal,” said Kruse, who was set to speak on Jimmy Moore's 5th Annual Low-Carb Cruise Monday. “Having the room completely trashed, and I was asked all of these crazy questions. I had no idea what they were talking about. “
Dr. Kruse told Nashville's News 2 he was eventually cleared by Homeland Security, but the Carnival ship captain would not let him stay on the ship and he was escorted off.
“There was no one from Carnival there. There [was] not even a taxi to get me back to the airport,” he said.
Since he has returned home, Kruse says he's been in constant contact with the FBI agent who began the investigation.
“And he goes, 'we take this very seriously. This carries a 15 to 20 year sentence,” Kruse continued.
The investigation into who sent the tweet is ongoing.
The Twitter account it came from has since been disabled.
Nashville's News 2's calls to Carnival Cruise Line were not immediately returned.
