Metro police responded to Tennessee State University Monday night after a campus officer was reportedly assaulted.
The incident was reported at a Greek recruitment event at the Gentry Center around 9:30 p.m.
During the event, the plain clothes officer was attacked from behind by an unknown individual.
The officer, whose identity was not released, was knocked unconscious after being struck in the head.
He was transported to Baptist Hospital for treatment.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
A suspect has not been taken into custody nor is it known if the assailant was a student.
