Murfreesboro police have launched a preliminary “criminal investigation” into the “circumstances surrounding” the death of a three-month-old boy.
According to a Murfreesboro police report, the infant suffered some type of medical emergency in the early morning hours Monday and was transported to Middle Tennessee Medical Center where he died.
The boy's death was labeled “accidental” in the report.
Tuesday, Murfreesboro police spokesman Kyle Evans told the Daily News Journal that “while the report is labeled accidental death, we are in the preliminary stages of a criminal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the child.”
Evans added “it would be inappropriate to release more at this time.”
An autopsy will be conducted.
Police also planned to further interview the infant's parents, police said.
Additional information was not released.
