Former Gallatin Police Chief Wayne Womack passed away Sunday following a lengthy illness.
He was 75 years old.
Chief Womack began his career with the Gallatin Police Department in August 1962 and was promoted to assistant chief of police in January of 1969.
Chief Womack served the citizens of Gallatin faithfully for 33 years, becoming the chief in November 1979 and serving as chief for 16 years.
He retired from the police department in January of 1995.
Gallatin police's headquarters is named in honor of Chief Womack and former Chief Corky Brazier.
Services for Womack will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Hendersonville.
Visitation will be Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home in Gallatin.
There will also be a brief visitation at First Baptist Church on Wednesday from 12 Noon to 1 p.m.
