A Nashville police officer has resigned from the department following a DUI arrest that occurred earlier this year.
Arthur Messmer, a Midnight-shift Madison precinct patrol officer, was taken into custody on January 31 for being intoxicated during his shift.
The 44-year-old served as an officer for 20 years before he was decommissioned following his arrest.
Authorities said Messmer's resignation ends an administrative investigation.
He is scheduled to appear in court later this month on charges of DUI and possession of a firearm while under the influence of an intoxicant.
