Two homes were evacuated after a man discovered an explosive device while doing some yard work in Mt. Juliet Saturday.
The device was discovered around 3:30 p.m. on Normandy Drive near Charles Road.
Police evacuated two homes and contacted the Tennessee Highway Patrol's bomb squad.
Mt. Juliet police Sgt. Tyler Chandler told Nashville's News 2, “It was about the size of a AA battery, was red, it said 'danger explosive' on the side of it [and it] had a cord coming out of it.”
He continued, “The good thing was that it was already fired, it was not an active explosive at the time so we rendered the item safe.”
Police said the blasting cap is the type used in commercial construction and it's possible the device was used when the neighborhood was built two years ago.
