A Hendersonville woman was arrested last week for raping a 16-year-old female.
Stephanie Nguyen, 24, was arrested last Thursday and charged with statutory rape.
Hendersonville police Det. Sgt. Jim Vaughn said Nguyen admitted to being involved in a sexual relationship with the juvenile following her arrest.
According to police, the pair met at an apartment complex on Center Point Road, where they both live.
Authorities said an investigation was initiated after a referral from the Department of Children's Services.
“A relationship matured, and after that they had sexual contact,” Vaugh said.
Nashville's News 2 Investigates spoke to a mother of three girls who lives next door to Nguyen.
The mother, who wished not to be identified, said she does not know the young woman, but she found the news of the sex crime alarming.
“It's making me scared for my kids, because I have one who is turning 16,” she explained, adding, “I very rarely let them out by themselves, and that will put a damper on them going outside even more.”
Last week was not the first time Nguyen has been charged in connection with a minor.
According to a police report, Nguyen was arrested in May of 2006 at the age of 18 for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The report said Nguyen took a 16-year-old girl to a Goodlettsville Motel 6 and spent the night without consent from the teen's parents.
The case was retired in November 2007.
Nguyen was booked into the Sumner County jail on a $25,000 bond.
She is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
